COVID-19 prompts our plea today for your support of the under-served children orphaned by domestic violence homicide.
NOW MORE THAN EVER THEY NEED YOUR HELP
Our Silver Lining program assists children orphaned by the devastating murder of a parent from intimate partner violence. In some cases, the children witnessed the murder, the immediate aftermath, called 911, and provided CPR in attempts to save their mother’s lives. Every day, these orphaned children battle PTSD, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, night terrors, aggression, cutting, and/or bed wetting.
Most of the children are being raised by elderly and disabled grandparents who cannot provide basic necessities, such as food and personal hygiene products, without our assistance. These families heavily rely on the support they receive from Kathy's Legacy to survive each month. We worry about our children not being able to receive this assistance.
One little girl is suicidal having witnessed her father stabbing her mother to death. She has found therapy in art. Through art classes funded by Kathy’s Legacy she has gone from drawing knives to drawing flowers. It is imperative that their traditional and non-traditional therapies be continued so these at-risk children can continue their grief journey to healing and neutralize some of their hopelessness.
When COVID-19 hit we were in the midst of planning our major fundraiser, Reviving Hope, with the goal of raising $100,000.00. Given the current environment, we were forced to cancel Reviving Hope. Without our annual fundraiser, Kathy’s Legacy will truly be at risk.
Kathy's Legacy Foundation was established in the memory of Kathy Scharbarth. On November 24, 2011, Thanksgiving Day, she was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. This tragedy left parents without a daughter, siblings without a sister, and a daughter without her mother. Kathy will not be remembered for her murder, but rather for all the good she inspired. We are committed to revive hope in the lives of the vulnerable children left behind.
Together we can make a difference. We appreciate your thoughtful consideration during this most challenging time to help us serve children impacted by domestic violence homicide.
Every cloud has a silver lining means that you should never feel hopeless because difficult times always lead to better days.
