Help us care for children and families in Ethiopia during this time of even greater need.
In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia there is a neighborhood called Korah which in Amharic means "cursed". The city dumps its trash there, and families scavenge through it to survive.
Beyond Borders, Open Schools Worldwide, and Brook Hills Development Organization are bringing hope to the community of Korah through education, one child at a time. Life has dramatically changed for the twenty one children from this community now in our program, who since October attend school five days a week where their bellies, minds, and spirit is filled.
The coronavirus has disrupted learning for children all over the globe - but for these children the disruption is far more threatening. These children had never been to school before and surrounded by daily trauma and abuse, safety, water, and food are nearly impossible to find and trust hard to cultivate. If the disease spreads through this community, the effects could be fatal. Malnourishment and lack of water and soap in a child's household are the two of the greatest risks for children globally.
While all schools and learning programs in Ethiopia are closed, the government has allowed our learning center to remain open so that our children can come twice a day to eat and to clean themselves with clean water and soap. When they come they see their teacher who gives some work to take home. We want the children to know - we are still here. Your learning journey is not over. We aren't going away. Yet the cost of food and supplies have increased in this crisis and we need funds to secure the rent of the facility.
We kindly ask that you join us in supporting the dear children of Koshe. Your gift will help provide immediate financial support so our partner can purchase food, medicines, soap, and assure continued access to clean water and to the center for the remainder of the year.
Our goal is to raise $6000 through the Giving Tuesday Now Campaign. These children need YOU!
