This coming May, South County High School will present it's Spring musical production of "Chicago" High School Edition. This fantastic interpretation of the classic broadway musical will provide a sophisticated and visually expressive work of art for audiences to enjoy including fellow students, school faculty and administrators, as well as the extended communities of Lorton, Springfield, Fairfax Station and Alexandria!
The show will include all the great muscial performances "Chicago" is famous for including "All That Jazz" and "Cell Block Tango". In addition, audiences will enjoy other new and exciting additions to this high energy story of love, scandal and murderesses set to the backdrop of the roaring 1920's jazz era.
Chicago High School Edition will provide an outstanding opportunity for the student actors and crew of South County High School to learn and expand their theatrical craft. Student actors and crew will act, sing, dance, choregraph musical numbers, design and create costumes by hand, design a complex set including lights, sound, and props and actively engage in promoting and marketing the show.
The goal of this campaign is to provide funding for several important aspects of the show including the cost of materials for hair, make-up, and costumes. Each actor costume is being hand sewn from a pattern and fabric. In addition, guest clinicians will be oveseeing the students in choregraphy, music, and set design and each clinician receives a stipend.
The biggest component of the show that we are fundraising for is the cost of meals for the cast, crew and orchestra pit during tech week of the show. Tech week is the week before the show opens when the full production is in dress rehearsal to prepare for opening night.
On these days, rehearsal begins immediately after school ends and the students may have an almost 12-14 hour day so they are given a full meal before rehearsal begins. The entire cast, crew and pit is over 100 students and faculty and there are 5-7 tech days before opening night.
