Since 2014, Team ChiParks has raised over $550,000 for the Chicago Parks Foundation!
The Chicago Parks Foundation’s goal is to change the way communities see our parks. In order to keep the parks beautiful, clean, safe and active with exciting programs we must rely less on tax dollars and more on converting our park users into park supporters and givers. We continue to work closely with the community to identify their needs and priorities for their neighborhood parks. The funds you raise for the Chicago Marathon allow us to continue this work and we know that this is only the beginning. We look forward to expanding our network and we hope that you will stay connected to the Chicago Parks Foundation and to your park!
I started running my freshman year of high school by joining the cross country team. At first, I thought of it as a way to make new friends before high school began while also having an after school activity, but I quickly realized that it was not what I had expected. Running introduced me to an intensely competitive physicality paired with an ambitious mindset to keep going. It has taught me to listen to my body and to push it to a point further than it has been before. Henceforth, I find running to be a time of mental recovery and a place where the only thing I can worry about is which direction I move in next, and this is why I love it so much. As I continue to conquer longer distances, I get more excited about my future aspirations in running, as each mile past the furthest I have run has allowed me to realize that as long as I continue to work hard, there is no limit to what I can do.
After volunteering for the 2018 Chicago Marathon, I realized that one of my life goals is to become a marathoner. I didn’t run the marathon in 2019 because I expected this goal to be one that I would attempt later on in my life, but after spending the whole day traveling across the city to watch others complete it, I realized that my goals aren’t something that I should wait for because chasing your dreams doesn’t mean waiting for the opportunity to come to you, but for you to come to the opportunity.
From only beginning to seriously run two years ago to all of the achievements that I have made since then, I am overjoyed to announce that I will be running the 2020 Bank of America Chicago Marathon for Team ChiParks. I decided to do a charity run for Chicago Parks Foundation because I want to raise awareness about nature and the environment and be a part of the internal improvements this city makes as we continue to be a national leader in sustainability. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and I hope you can make a contribution in my name to Chicago Parks Foundation under my Crowdrise page.
