In honor of my mother (11/5/1954 - 11/6/2017).
ABOUT IMERMAN ANGELS:
This year I am running the Chicago and NYC marathons with Imerman Angels! Imerman Angels is a nonprofit organization that offers free, one-on-one support for cancer patients and their caretakers in the form of a "Mentor Angel." A Mentor Angel is a cancer survivor or caretaker who has experienced the same type of cancer. The program is always completely free and is available to anyone impacted by any type of cancer, at any stage of cancer, living anywhere in the world.
The Imerman Angels mission was founded on the principle that psychosocial support plays a critical role in recovery from illness. To me, having healthy relationships and a strong sense of support and community is a huge part of health and recovery, and cancer can be a particularly isolating condition.
WHY I AM RUNNING WITH IMERMAN ANGELS:
I am running both marathons in honor of my mother, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and passed away in 2017. I truly believe her community and the relationships she built with people helped heal her in many ways, bring her fulfillment, and ultimately prolong her life way past the doctors' expectations. Please consider donating to the organization in honour of someone you love, speading the news to somone who may benefit from their services, and/or getting involved with the organization (or another one that is meaningful to you)!
