My name is Matthew Foster Walsh and I am a Junior at the Latin School of Chicago. For my Eagle Scout Service Project I am partnering with Chicago Lights, the community outreach arm of Fourth Presbyterian Church, where I went to Sunday School and where my family has been very involved for many years.
Every year, the Chicago Lights Tutoring Program (established in 1964) matches 440 Chicago Public School students living in under-resourced neighborhoods with caring adult tutors/mentors who meet weekly to provide innovative educational and enrichment resources that promote long-term academic and social success. The success of the Tutoring Program relies on the students having access to working technology, including laptop computers.
My Eagle Service Project aims to double the size and functionality of the Chicago Lights computer lab with the funds raised on CrowdRise. We will upgrade existing computers with new batteries and software, purchase and configure 15 new laptops and the software to go with them, and purchase and assemble a wheeled cart for storing and charging the laptops.
If this fundraiser is able to raise more money than our $5,000 goal, we will use that money to purchase more computers, allowing even more Tutoring students access to these important learning tools.
Funding Levels:
$500 will fund one computer cart for 30 laptops
$250 will fund one new laptop
$100 will fund two replacement batteries for existing laptops
$25 will fund a Microsoft software package for one laptop
$10 will fund a Microsoft Windows upgrade for one existing laptop
