"On a summer afternoon, Vanessa left her family home to go for a short walk. She was tragically killed by an act of violence. A male has been charged with murder.
Vanessa’s senseless death fuels our need to speak out. More than 600 women are assaulted each day. We need to fight back. We need to step up. We need to advocate for a world where women are safe and free to live boldly, which is what the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation is all about.
We strive to achieve this goal by partnering with organizations that provide educational programs and mentorship opportunities to promote female empowerment and gender equality. Why I am running for the Vanessa Marcotte Foundation:
I never meet Vanessa in person but her attack hit close to home. She was attacked a few short miles from my childhood home on roads that regularly appear in my longer running routes. The attack was brutal reminder that no matter how safe a place may feel it is not immune to senseless acts of violence. I am running for the Vanessa Marcotte Foundation because I believe in their work to speak up about violence against women, and to provide every women with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves so that they are "safe and free to live boldly" -Vanessa Marcotted Foundation
