My whole life has revolved around sports, always being a part of a team in one fashion or another, whether it be playing soccer, rugby or skiing. I always had a goal in mind, win a meet, win a playoff match or take home the championship. As I am now staring down the final years of my thirties I have found it more challenging to find something outside of my career in the sports arena to really set a goal and achieve it, and for some reason the crazy idea of running the Chicago Marathon came into my head. The biggest challenge before the training and the miles even started, would be how would I get in the race itself, considering it just a lottery. Lucky for me, I work at one of the greatest sports organizations in the country with one of the greatest Foundations in all of the world! (We have the awards to prove it)
Not only do I get to accomplish one of my fitness goals, we get to help out so many deserving kids within the city of Chicago, through our P.L.A.Y.S. Program. All of the details are below for this incredible program and I cannot thank you enough for donating to my page.
PS- One of the photos is me.....not the kids from the program!!
Thanks again......and wish me luck !!!!
Thank you for your support of the Chicago Fire Foundation!
The commitment to run a race at any distance should not be unappreciated; raising money to support a worthwhile cause makes this achievement even more notable! The funds raised as a part of Team CFF will help the Chicago Fire Foundation expand its award winning P.L.A.Y.S. (Participate, Learn, Achieve, Youth, Soccer) Program!
This 10-week innovative program takes place in the spring and is committed to enhancing the academic performance and development of key social and emotional skills of elementary school students through a sport based curriculum.
P.L.A.Y.S. began in 2013, and has since been able to provide over 200,000 hours of soccer to boys and girls in grades 3-5. In 2020, the program is expanding to 40 Chicago Public Schools across some of the most underserved neighborhoods in the city.
