Cheff exists to enhance the lives individuals who have special needs through equine assisted activities and therapies while leading the industry in education.
This year's ArtVan Charity Challenge project will be raising money to improve the experiences of our clients and the horses they depend on by purchasing and installing 32 new windows in our stable area.
This project is essential to the wellbeing of our therapy horse herd and to the comfort of our clients, volunteers, and staff. Existing windows are original to the 1960's construction and are no longer efficient or effective. They are single pane, cracked, and no longer open or close. New windows would allow for cooler temperatures in the summer, warmer temperatures in the winter, and an overall increase in air quality in the barn.
Monday through Friday year round, clients run, walk, and roll their way through the doors at the Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center in Augusta, Michigan eager to meet up with ‘their’ horse and go for a ride. For over 48 years, Cheff Center has provided a success oriented and unconditionally supportive setting for healing, education, and fun. The synergy created by our herd of gentle giants, professional staff, and specially trained volunteers allows for an experience that cannot be replicated in any traditional clinic or hospital setting.
Cheff clients currently range in age from 2 to 82 and all face physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges in their daily lives. In 2017, Cheff Center served, on average 125 special needs individuals per week (for a grand total of 451 different individuals) with the support of approximately 305 regular program volunteers.
Real people are seeing real results as a direct result of the investment individuals and organizations have made in the Cheff Center.
As U.S. Veteran Aphasia (Stroke) Group client, Jerry recently stated: “It gave me my strength and my life back- where I could take control. That’s what therapeutic riding did for me… Thank you all for giving me my life back.”
With your support, you will be helping clients, like Jerry, make the most out of their time at Cheff as well as improving the quality of life for our therapy horse herd who makes miracles possible every day!
