Eight years ago, I began my career in special education and started working with high school transition students. During my career families trusted me to assist their students in providing vocational, life, and social skills needed to succeed in adult life once they left the traditional educational setting. During this time in public education, I realized that there was a significant need for additional facilities for adults with disabilities.
I am excited to have the opportunity to raise money for Choice Living Community a nonprofit for adults with disabilities that have aged out of the traditional educational setting. We are raising money to open a new facility in August. Your funds will help support the need for this new facility and provide so many adults with disabilities a place to attend during the day.
Many families, over 155,000 in Texas alone, are on at least a 10-year waiting list for facilities or services and Choice Living Community is looking to fill that gap by providing a place for adults with disabilities to attend as soon as they leave public education and not have to wait.
It is imperative that once a student with disabilities leaves public education as an adult, that they continue to adhere to a consistent schedule.
