Ainsley's Angels of America is super excited to be spreading awareness and smiles through activism and education!
Please take a moment to get to know Riley, as she will become a Marathoner at the Marine Corps Marathon in October 2018 !
Riley is full of life and is always smiling. Riley lives at home with myself (her mother) and 6 year old brother Caleb and many animals. Riley enjoys music and dance. She even took a year of adaptive dance and preformed in front of a large crow of people. Riley was born at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She was born with two birth defects and developed lung disease from being on a respirator for the first 3 months of her life in the NICU. After spending 6 months in the hospital and 4 surgery later Riley was finally able to come home. She made many more trips to the hospital and major heart surgery before we moved to Virginia to live closer to family. Shortly after moving to VA Riley developed the stomach flu that went miss diagnosed and almost cost her her life. Thanks to the amazing emergency room doctors they were able to save Riley but, it was to late. Her body had already started shutting down and she suffered brain damage from lack of oxygen to her brain. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. She lost all fine and gross motor skills she was already delayed on. She was put in a wheelchair and i was told he would probably never work. She eats all her meals from a tube placed in her stomach. Riley is slowly learning to talk and walk with the help of dedicated therapist. and the love and support from friends and family.
One day while our family was a busch Gardens we met a family who told us about Ainsley's Angels. I signed Riley up the next day to ride in her first run. It was amazing. everyone was encouraging and support. Ainsely's Angles is a way for Riley to get out in her community and meet other people just like her. It makes her feel special crossing the finish line. Having our own axiom chair would give Riley the opportunity to go out with her family for runs and bike rides and feel included.
