I'm racing in the 2019 IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene 70.3 distance race to support The Anna Schindler Foundation. I am also competing in these races this year to give strength and encouragement to the brave kids battling childhood cancer and the strong families that love them. I am a childhood cancer survivor. I was about 9 months old when I was diagnosed. Because I was so young, I can only imagine the struggles my parents faced emotionally and financially. Had it not been for some local charities that helped them financially, it's possible my families outcome could have been different. Cancer is not only devastating, but treatment is very expensive. The Anna Schindler Foundation helps families with meal cards while their child is inpatient at the hospital, offsetting grocery, gas, car repair, lodging, living and medical expenses. They have even helped with the cost of burying a child. If a family has a need they will exhaust their efforts to lighten the load so they can focus on the care of their child. It is also a dream of the Anna Schindler Foundation to build temporary housing, Anna’s Homes, for pediatric oncology families from outlying areas who must stay close to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital for treatment.
