Did you know that three quarters of girls with low self-esteem engage in harmful behaviors such as smoking, drinking, bullying, and disordered eating? Girls as young as six believe brilliance is a male trait, even though girls outperform boys in academics. These ‘less than’ beliefs can calcify like bone and result in women holding only 14% of top leadership positions in the nation. We must change these toxic messages so that girls in Texas can reach their full potential!
The We Are Girls Austin Conference, produced by Girls Empowerment Network (GEN), is an annual community event designed especially for thousands of 3rd – 8th grade girls and the adults who care about them. With dynamic break-out sessions, nationally recognized experts, and an empowering dance party, girls get to be totally in charge of their day.
The 2018 We Are Girls Austin Conference theme is “Ignite Her Power!” and it will serve 2,000 girls, parents, and educators on Saturday, November 3rd at Anderson High School.
Girls who attend We Are Girls Conferences are wrapped in inspiring messages and lessons all day that help them see their own value and power and help them know that they are not alone. In fact, at the last event, 92% of girls reported that they were able to connect with others who shared their challenges or concerns and 91% of girls said they learned information which would help keep them out of trouble at school.
Each year, over 50% of the attendees come from low income households and need financial assistance to receive the powerful experience of this special day. Just $30 sends a girl to We Are Girls. Central Texas OB/GYN Associates is aiming to ignite the power in 100 girls in need by supporting their attendance on Saturday, November 3rd at Anderson High School!
