The Center for Success is a nonprofit organization committed to impacting children in disadvantaged areas through education and exposure to social interactions and activities. We believe that if we impact the next generation, we change our future.
The Center for Success seeks to empower children and families to live successful lives. We target communities across South East Michigan with demonstrated need for educational and mentoring support for under-resourced students. Our Centers strive to alleviate the adverse effects of underfunded educational systems and expand opportunities for success. The Center for Success engages the community to support underserved children, increasing their prospects for becoming inclusive and productive members of society.
A Story of Success:
Christopher began attending programs in 2016 when he was in 4th grade. He initially tested at a level D, which indicates a reading level at the beginning of first grade. He struggled with sight words, and developmentally his spelling was significantly behind grade level as well. Christopher did not always want to be at the program, and often his attitude reflected that. He was not focused and argumentative.
Within one program year, after much effort from his dedicated mentor John, Christopher had doubled his fluency score and tested at the beginning of 3rd grade. He came back to the Center for this year ready to work hard. His mentor also returned and continues to support his reading and learning.
Christopher has excelled so much that he is able to play basketball for his team in every game. His attitude is so positive, and he has asked to be the classroom assistant. Christopher is willing to help with lots of tasks. He even assists the younger students with homework and reading!
The most apparent change is the beautiful smile we get to see at each session. We are so proud of the commitment he has made to improve his reading and achieve his goals!
Thank you in advance for learning about, sharing and supporting our cause. Together, we can empower the next generation of readers and leaders.
