On November 5th, Advocates for Adolescent Mothers founder, Lillian Harris, is celebrating her XXth birthday!
I know some people are not enthused to grow older, but considering the things that I have overcome, such as exposure to domestic violence and homelessness, I am grateful to celebrate another year of life. I make a big deal about my birthday because it is the one time of year that I can be unapologetically self-indulgent, since I am advocating for others the majority of the year.
In honor of my XXth birthday, I am asking you to donate to Advocates for Adolescent Mothers, whose antipoverty mission I have committed the last 9 years of my life. I would probably never ask you for a gift for myself, but I don't mind asking for the young moms and children we serve. Next month we will be providing toys and outerwear to young moms and their children for Christmas, though we provide mentoring and financial support to young mom college students throughout the year. I can't think of a better birthday gift than your support of AFAM's antipoverty mission.
Thanks for giving!
P.S. If you feel like taking your gift giving to another level, share the campaign in email or on your social media profile. Also, when your birthday comes, if you have a Facebook account, you can choose to have your friends donate to Advocates for Adolescent Mothers on your behalf.
