This holiday season, I am committed to celebrating the power of intercultural dialogue through the Shafik Gabr Foundation's East-West: The Art of Dialogue Initiative. At a time when people are disengaging from the global community and we seem more divided than ever before, the Foundation looks to challenge the status quo.
Each year, the Foundation organizes the Gabr Fellowship program, which brings together 10 Americans and 10 Egyptians for an intercultural exchange program in the United States and Egypt. Through this experience, these emerging young changemakers engage with leaders in business, politics, culture, and technology in both countries and are empowered as ambassadors for intercultural dialogue.
As a 2017 Fellow, I have been transformed and challenged, made lifelong friendships with my peers, and built a network that will help me make a difference. I got to ask tough questions, have my perceptions and assumptions questions, and have become a more open-minded global leader. I have been forever changed through this experience and I want to give emerging young leaders in 2019 the chance to participate as well.
