Team Cedar Street is ready to uplift LGBTQ2IA+ youth!
Despite much recent legal and social progress, LGBTQ2IA+ youth face many barriers. 40% of youth experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ2IA+. 26% of homeless LGBTQ2IA+ youth report being kicked out of their homes solely based on their sexuality or gender identity. LGBTQ2IA+ are substantially more likely to be victims of assault and sexual violence. Transgender youth and youth of color face even greater barriers and risks. And yet, LGBTQ2IA+ youth who receive accepting and gender-affirming social support are much more likely to thrive.
This is why Pull for Pride is such an important fundraising event. Cedar Street Barbell Club is proud to be Pulling for Pride in support of Valley Youth House. Valley Youth House’s Pride program is the longest running housing program for LGBTQ youth in Philadelphia. Started in 2009, Pride gives youth the opportunity to embrace their identity and overcome the obstacles presented by housing insecurities and homelessness. Pride provides housing and supportive services for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Youth are provided a safe place to be themselves and gain support to make the typical transitions that occur during late adolescence and early adulthood.
Cedar Street Barbell Club is a prviate strength-training studio founded in order to provide a safe and supportive environmeny for anyone looking to increase their overall strength in a non-intimidating space. We're proud to support Valley Youth House, Pull for Pride, and all of the LGBTQ2IA+ youth of Philadelphia.
