Support This Organization's Vision and Proven Solution to Break the Cycle of Poverty
Poverty is complex with many contributing factors, but many of the available “solutions” are not. By focusing on providing short-term relief to poverty symptoms rather than addressing the root causes, the poverty cycle is strengthened rather than broken. Another issue is the way success is measured. As a country, we have measured success by how many people we have served for a day, rather than how many we have empowered for a lifetime. Millions of individuals and families are struggling to make ends meet and we can do better.
Catholic Charities Fort Worth (CCFW) knows ending poverty is possible and has set a bold goal to help 10,000 families break out of poverty by 2026. Their holistic and personal approach focuses on what it takes for each individual or family to escape poverty. CCFW holds themselves accountable by measuring the success of their interventions and creating solutions to address the problems faced by those they serve. One of these solutions is Stay the Course. A community college degree is a good weapon against poverty, but dropout rates are high. Stay the Course, focuses on increasing college graduation rates among low-income and new-to-college students.
Starting with 400 students, CCFW has grown its evidence-based solution to serve 3,400 students. And it's working! Participants in the Stay the Course program are four times more likely to graduate. With a degree, graduates are skilled and more valuable, so employers are finding a better trained local workforce, closing the skills gap, and offering higher paid jobs in Fort Worth. On average, CCFW's participants are earning nearly $10,000 more per year and leaving poverty behind for good. Every family out of poverty creates a ripple effect that impacts the entire community. By giving to Catholic Charities Fort Worth, you are investing in real solutions that tackle the complexity of poverty and change the lives of those they serve.
