Children in the Philippines who live in extreme poverty lack access to quality healthcare. They are often denied assistance.
Russel is 4 years old and has spina bifida. He lives with his family in the Philippines. His older brother also has special needs.
Russel has a neutrogenic bladder. A neurogenic bladder is a bladder that doesn't empty or store urine properly due to a neurological condition or spinal cord injury. Neurogenic bladder is a common complication of spina bifida, a condition in which there is abnormal development of the spinal cord. Because of this, Russel's mother has to insert a catheter into his bladder every 4 hours to empty it. The cost of the items needed to maintain his health are huge for this family. Other charities have refused to help because "he looks too healthy."
We want to help relieve some of the burden on his mother (who we think is a superwoman) by purchasing gloves, catheters, antiseptic, diapers, gauze, formula and more for Russel. Want to help?
