The Cathedral Church of the Most Holy Theotokos - Our Lady of Grace is more than one hundred and fifty years old and is one of the architectural and historic gems of Utica.
The Cathedral is a special place to many people: a House of Prayer; a place of History; a sacred temple consecrated to the worship of the Most Holy Trinity; a Holy Sanctuary wherein dwells the Eternal God; and a place of solace and peace where we experience the comfort of God's Holy Presence.
For more than twenty years, the Cathedral, known affectionately by its neighbors as "Mother Mary's House", has faithfully and joyfully served the residents of Utica's Historic Cornhill District with unwavering love, devotion. and compassion. Our many outreach and community ministries and programs have served and benefited thousands of people over the past twenty years, many of whom were homeless, unemployed, or low-income individuals and families.
Now, the Cathedral needs your help. It has fallen into a state of disrepair that requires urgent attention so that we can avoid condemnation and permanent closure of the building. We have to restore it, and we have to do so now. Now, more than ever, our Church needs your help.
Our most urgent and immediate need is to replace the entire roof and repair the interior stone arches over the Sanctuary. Shoddy workmanship of a previous roof replacement in 2005 has caused significant water damage to the interior of the building and the roof itself.
The estimated cost to make these emergency repairs is $240,000. This includes $150,000 for a new roof; $40,000 to repair the stone arches; and $50,000 to repair the damage done to the wooden nave floor.
Whatever help you are disposed to give to this charitable effort, it will be thankfully received and faithfully applied to and exclusively used for these urgent and immediate repairs.
Please help us save this beautiful architecturally and historic building which has served God's people for more than one hundred and fifty years.
May Almighty God bless you for your generosity and kindness in supporting this charitable effort.
