An organization for which I volunteer a lot of time is BirdsCaribbean. This non-profit organization is dedicated to the conservation of Caribbean birds and nature through science, education, conservation, and advocacy. It's a small organization, but I think we are making a big difference in a really cool part of the world.
I formed a team for first BirdsCaribbean Global Big Day Fundraiser (May 9th, 2020). Funds raised will go specifically to keeping BirdsCaribbean's Journal of Caribbean Ornithology in production and freely available to everyone. The journal helps folks throughout the Caribbean to share their research findings, which in turn, informs conservation and management of our treasured Caribbean birds.
I named my team Catbirds and Dogbirds, because although I work with birds in the Caribbean, the animals I spend the most of my time with are my dogs. Alas, there are no real dogbirds, but there are real catbirds (Gray Cabird, pictured)!
My personal goals were to have a teammate from each of the 50 States and raise $5000. In 2020, 33 States were reached and $1600+ (including offline donations) was raised. We are gearing up for 2021 already!
I would love you to join me in spending time next GBD watching birds, telling others about this campaign, and/or providing a donation.
