Years ago, our kids Cyrus and Milo used to go to school at Pritzker Elementary in Wicker Park. Once a week when school let out, they would walk up Leavitt to our little shop in Bucktown to play Dungeons & Dragons with some buddies.
Twice a week, they would walk through the park and down Milwaukee Avenue until they got to the Secret Agent Store. They'd go past the spy gear and head to the welcoming space in the back that is 826CHI. Homework was done, books were read, and stories were written. Stories like Snake Dream, which you can read above.
That was almost ten years ago, and today 826CHI continues to reach thousands of Chicago students every year with after school tutoring and writing workshops.
When I saw that 826CHI was hosting a fundraising event, and that it involved trivia, Peter Segal, and our neighbors over at McDonalds HQ, I immediately signed up Team Cat & Mouse. I can't think of a better way to spend an evening than having fun and raising money for this very worthy organization!
