CASA Kids is an all-volunteer non-profit organization supporting Pierce County's Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) and the Pierce Country CASA Program. The mission of CASA Kids is to support children in the Pierce County foster care system by providing the things they need to enrich and enhance their lives.
CASAs are volunteers who advocate for children in or at risk of entering foster care. CASA volunteers are assigned cases by the Pierce County Juvenile Court. CASAs meet regularly with the children and families in their cases. They may also meet with relatives who can support the family, and teachers or medical professionals who can provide information on the children and family. CASAs report back to the court on a regular basis.
- CASAs spend an average of 10 - 15 hours per month advocating for the children in the cases.
- Children with a CASA volunteer spend an average of 7 1/2 months less in foster care compared to children without a CASA.
- Children with a CASA are 50% less likely to re-enter care.
CASA volunteers are supervised by staff of the Pierce County CASA Program. There are about 250 CASAs advocating for 1,100 children in Pierce County. As the Pierce County CASA Program is part of the court system, there are strict rules on fundraising and providing material support or gifts to children and families. CASA Kids, a 501(c)3, was formed to meet the needs of children and families that are outside the scope of the court program.
CASA Kids offers several on-going supports to CASAs, and children and families in foster care. The “Best for Babies” diaper and whips drive provides a significant benefit to parents of infants and toddlers. CASA Kids maintains a small “book store” so CASAs can give books to children. Books encourage reading, learning, and can be a time to bond with their caregiver. CASA Kids provides for special needs of individual children, such as computers or lessons, not otherwise provide by other sources. CASA Kids leads several recruitment events throughout the year and leads efforts to retain existing CASAs.
Your donation will provide CASA Kids the financial resources necessary to serve children, families, and the CASA Program.
Please consider a recurring monthly donation.
