Did you know….
- the illegal wildlife trade is now the fourth largest criminal industry after drugs, arms and human trafficking?
- over the last 40 years, the world’s wildlife population has decreased by more than half due to the compounding effects of human activity.
- and at the current rate of poaching, Africa’s elephants will be gone from the wild within our lifetime?
Although humans have created the problem, we can also create the solution.
In less than a month, Jennifer (my sister) and I will be running the Safaricom Half Marathon in the Lewa Conservancy in Kenya to raise money for Tusk, a nonprofit that is dedicated to protecting wildlife while mitigating poverty and providing educational opportunities throughout Africa.
We will be running through a heavily protected conservancy which is home to rhino, elephant, big cats, giraffe and zebra. Now neither of us were big runners when we signed up for the race…but our enthusiasm for this charity and desire to finish has practically turned us into professional athletes (by our standards).
The Safaricom Marathon is Tusk’s largest fund raising initiative and has raised over 7 million dollars since it’s inception
.
We hope you will consider supporting us and Tusk…when we protect our natural habitat and wildlife, we enrich our planet.
