CARECEN Gets the Job Done!
We believe that #FamiliesBelongTogether and need your help to support our direct efforts in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and remote efforts from our Washington, DC office to reunify families separated by the Administration’s zero tolerance policy.
In the last month, CARECEN has been involved in providing Central American asylum-seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border with legal orientation and humanitarian support. Our Executive Director, Abel Nunez, and Director of Legal Services, M. Lucero Ortiz, Esq. recently visited the Rio Grande Valley to meet with mothers and fathers who have been separated from their children. As an organization, we are working tirelessly to support efforts on the ground to reunite separated families. We are also working to establish long-term support for the families that will ultimately make the greater Washington, DC area their home and will continue fighting their legal cases from the DMV.
Help us raise $10,000 to sustain the following activities:
- Send additional CARECEN staff to the Rio Grande Valley to continue legal orientation, preparation for credible fear interviews (CFI) for asylum-seekers, interviewing children in shelters, and identify the locations of parents and children separated under the zero-tolerance policy;
- Input data from intake forms completed by attorneys working with detainees at Port Isabel Detention Center (PIDC) remotely from our Washington, DC office;
- Recruit and train future volunteers going to the RGV;
- Add credit to detainees’ telephone accounts to facilitate family and legal calls.
In other words, CARECEN is doing what the government has failed to do: provide comprehensive and far-reaching services both close to the border and in the Washington, DC area, where many of these families will join us in the near future. For the last 37 years, CARECEN (the Central American Resource Center) has supported every wave of Central American immigrants to the U.S. since the region’s violent civil wars. Through the years, we have provided direct services in the areas of citizenship, housing, immigration law, and advocacy. We will continue to serve the needs of the newcomers.

CARECEN y las #Familiasunidasnodividadas necesita de su ayuda para apoyar nuestros esfuerzos directos en el Valle del Rio Grande en Texas y los esfuerzos remotos de nuestra oficina en Washington, DC para reunir familias separadas por la política de cero tolerancia de la Administración.
En el último mes, CARECEN ha estado involucrado en la provisión de solicitantes de asilo centroamericanos en la frontera de EE.UU.- México con orientación legal y apoyo humanitario. Nuestro Director Ejecutivo Abel Nunez, y la Directora de Servicios Legales, M. Lucero Ortiz, Esq. recientemente visitaron el Valle del Rio Grande para reunirse con madres y padres que han sido separados de sus hijos. Como organización, estamos trabajando incansablemente para apoyar los esfuerzos para reunir a las familias separadas. También estamos trabajando para establecer un apoyo a largo plazo para familias que harán de Washington DC su hogar y continuaremos luchando sus casos legales desde el DMV.
Ayúdenos a recaudar $10,000 para sostener las siguientes actividades:
· Enviar personal adicional de CARECEN al Valle del Rio Grande para continuar la orientación legal, preparación de entrevista de temor creíble (CFI) para solicitantes de asilo, entrevistar a niños en refugios e identificar las ubicaciones de padres e hijos separados bajo la política de tolerancia cero;
· Ingresar datos de los formularios de admisión completados por abogados que trabajan con detenidos en el Centro de Detención Port Isabel (PIDC) de forma remota desde nuestras oficinas en Washington, DC;
· Reclutar y capacitar a los futuros voluntarios que van al RGV;
· Agregar crédito a las cuentas telefónicas de los detenidos para facilitar las llamadas familiares y legales.
En otras palabras, CARECEN está haciendo lo que el gobierno no ha hecho: Proporcionar servicios integrales y de largo alcance, tanto cerca de la frontera como en el área de Washington DC, done muchas de estas familias se unirán a nosotros en el futuro cercano. Durante los últimos 37 años, CARECEN (Centro de Recursos de Centroamérica) ha apoyado a cada ola de inmigrantes centroamericanos en los Estados Unidos desde las violentas guerras civiles de la región. A través de los años, hemos brindado servicios directos en las áreas de ciudadanía, vivienda, leyes de inmigración y abogacía. Continuaremos atendiendo las necesidades de los recién llegados.
