I'm ready to ride.
On February 8 I'll be riding to raise funds and awareness with the Parkinson's Foundation. I'm challenging myself to finish the ride to improve optoons for those living with Parkinson's and advance research toward a cure.
Back at age 43 my dear husband Borden started having olfactory (smell) hallucinations, he smelled weird things, the worst was what he could only describe as cooked dog food. Those lasted about a year and then he couldn't smell anything- he hasnt been able to smell since, his doctor attributed it to asthma. That same year he started acting out his dreams, he'd thrash about or talk, sometimes he'd fling himself out of bed, his doctor attributed it to stress. In his 50's Borden became very nervous, he worried a lot about safety- he got the nickname "Captain Safety" and his kids bore the brunt of this worry. In his 50's he lost his voice and was more forgetful than expected, this was attributed again to asthma and to normal aging. In his early 60's he got a tremor, after some assertiveness with his doctor he was worked up and diagnosed with Parkinson's. Parkinson's is insidious and devastating, Borden keeps going and knows the best way to stay well is to stay active but Parkinson's saps his energy.
