CAPI USA's food shelf at its Immigrant Opportunity Center in Brooklyn Center, MN serves immigrants, refugees, and native-born low- income families, and gives out an average of 30,000 pounds of food each month--that's 360,000 pounds of food annually! Funding for food shelves is decreasing while the need for assistance continues to grow at an alarming rate. CAPI's food shelf offers a healthy alternative to easily accessible, low-cost food options (i.e. fast food chains) and opens the door to integrate our clients into the other services CAPI provides (economic empowerment, basic needs, and civic engagement).
What started out as an annual fundraiser has changed into a call to action. At CAPI, what keeps us motivated is serving the most vulnerable among us—the elderly, the marginalized, and those determined to find a better way forward while struggling with food insecurity and lacking a livable wage.
During this present time of uncertainty, our community members need your help. Our food shelf needs your help. We are in need of non-perishable items and online donations that will help us provide the most basic of needs—food—to our participants. For the worker whose shifts get cut, for the families who depend on free and reduced lunches at school—join us in creating a better community together by donating today and sharing this fundraiser with your networks, communities of faith, and others close to you.
Your donation will directly impact and transform the lives of individuals and families in the Twin Cities metro experiencing food insecurity--whose access to adequate food is inconsistent and limited by a lack of money and other resources throughout the year. Join us today and make a difference in someone's life for years to come!
