The Cape to Cape Paddle, on Sunday August 18, is the main fundraising event for the Desatnick Foundation.
Once again I'm completely honored to be selected to paddle the Cape to Cape. The paddle hits a tender place in my heart: In 2012, I sustained a back injury while moving a patient, which eventually required 3 seperate surgeries (and a 4th to fix the rotator cuff I tore while rehabbing my back). There were many points along the way that I was told I would never return to bedside nursing, and was told to be thankful I could still walk.
In 2015, after all the surgeries, I returned to bedside nursing and an active life-style. Things aren't perfect, but all things considered, I'm doing pretty damn good. I conquered the paddling world in the years since, doing many races, but the Cape to Cape for the Desatinick Foundation is truly my favorite: I know what it's like to be told your life has changed due to an injury, I was incredibly fortunate to get through my injury a resume life.
The Desatnick Foundation is dedicated to helping people who are not as lucky as I was: the foundation is comitted to helping victims of spinal cord injury in their recovery by providing education, promoting awareness, a and helping families cope both emotionally and financially after a loved one has suffered a spinal cord injury.
Please help me in reaching my goal and crossing from Cape to Cape for this amazing cause, and support the Desatnick Foundation
