This August I will be running the Falmouth Road Race for the Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition. Now more than ever, it is an important time to spread awareness on this issue. Steadily on the rise, the suicide rate is the highest it has been in decades, currently claiming 800,000 lives worldwide each year. That’s roughly one person every 40 seconds. The World Health Organization reports that for every individual who dies by suicide, 20 others will attempt it.
As some of you may know, I lost my father to suicide when I was 17 years old. He was the closest person I had in my life. He was my best friend. The amount of pain my family and I have experienced from this loss is indescribable. It is a pain that I don’t want anyone to ever have to experience.
Running in the Falmouth Road Race for this cause, I am hoping to help break the stigma of suicide and spread awareness, so that individuals suffering from suicidal thoughts will be promoted to seek help, as I so desperately wish my father had.
By supporting my fundraiser, you will be aiding my hopes and the mission of the Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition, to give Cape Cod and the Islands communities the necessary information and tools to raise awareness, promote education, and increase action to reduce suicides.
I greatly appreciate your support in this cause and hope you will consider donating.
My deepest thanks,
