Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the 2018 Cape Cod Bay Challenge (CCBC). This is a big year as it is the 11th anniversary and it will be my 6th time participating. The CCBC a mentally and physically challenging 22 mile open ocean paddle to benefit a wonderful charity called Christopher's Haven, (link here). http://christophershaven.org/
Some of the kids that come to Christophers Haven are terminally ill. Mass. General offers a specific treatment called proton beam therapy that has an enormous success rate at zapping brain cancers. I'm thrilled to combine my passion of paddle boarding/surfing with the ability to make a difference for the folks that pass through Christopher's Haven's doors.Located next to Mass General Hospital in Boston, Christopher's Haven is a place where families can stay and help each other through the process having a child undergo a pediatric cancer treatment without worrying about the financial burden of staying in Boston for 6-8 weeks during the treatment. The founder, Dan Olsen, has had — and has beaten — cancer three times. Each time he has gone through treatment, he has seen countless families with children going through exactly the same process as himself at Mass General Hospital, but who have nowhere convenient to live. That’s why he started Christopher’s Haven in 2006. Today, the nonprofit provides family housing in seven suites plus a loft space right across the street from Massachusetts General Hospital’s cancer center. Olsen has seen 140 families come through the doors of Christopher’s Haven, most of them staying up to two months for their children to finish treatment. They are some of the most grateful people Olsen says he has ever met. I have been there a couple of times to meet the founder and some of the famlies that we help. I can't explain how appreciative Cristophers Haven is of the efforts of my brothers and sisters in the CCBC family. Before Bob Kraft of the Patriots, and other Hollywood types discovered the charity, our events at one time covered 1/3 of the operating budget.
I would be thrilled and very thankful for you to help me realize my fundraising goals for our cause.
Thank you,
Todd Kelly
