Canticle Farm has been given a generous offer to match donations in support of BayNVC, so we have created this campaign. They are an intentional community and urban farm in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, CA. For every dollar you donate to Canticle Farm in this campaign, one of Canticle Farms donors will donate up to $5,000 in matched funds to BayNVC.
Canticle Farm’s founders were students of Miki’s in the early years of BayNVC. From its inception ten years ago, the spirituality and tools of NVC have been embedded in the vision and practice of this organization. For several years until Miki left the US and started vagabonding in search of community, she provided coaching for the Canticle Farm community, often on a weekly basis, supporting their community experiment at the intersection of social-justice based, faith-based and Earth-based nonviolent activism.
Canticle Farm operates by gift economy, with a goal of radical inclusivity, working to heal across differences of race, gender, age, and religion. Miki’s coaching focused on supporting their systems, engaging with topics related to power and privilege, and attending to questions of inclusion and exclusion.
This Opportunity is Timely
Canticle Farm is in the final phase of raising funds for a large renovation of one of their six houses. They will soon have a community kitchen, dining room, guest room and “great room” for hosting workshops. BayNVC is one of the organizations that previously benefited from the use of Canticle Farm’s former workshop space, along with many other local organizations working for justice and peace.
Pre-COVID, Canticle Farm was hosting 100+ events per year in a spirit that supports their mission of being a platform for the Great Turning. This improvement of their infrastructure will enable them to offer retreats, workshops, healing classes and ceremonies to more people in an inviting, attractive, and hospitable space.
BayNVC is in an ongoing arc of transition in making long lasting improvements centered around giving Miki spaciousness to dedicate as much as possible to bringing her core gifts to the world: teaching, reading, and writing. Donations we receive at this time are contributing to all the work we do, in a time of significance in relation to our shift towards greater alignment with our vision:
“A world where everyone’s needs are visible and systems sustain the capacity of people and communities to co-create cultures of choice, togetherness, and flow with care for the whole of life – past, present, and future.“
Giving in the Spirit of Gift Economy
It is vitally important to us that everyone can trust that we only want to receive money if it’s truly freely given, out of your desire to support something you believe in; only what you are moved to give, if you are, and only if you are able to do so without hardship, resentment, or expectation. Learn more about the gift economy here.
If you are willing and able to give a donation we thank you. If you are inspired to tell others about this work and why you value it (e.g. forward this email), we thank you.
