Hello! Family and Friends, I am Hodgson Founder and CEO of Deep Mercy Inc. a 501(C)3 non-profit organization at work in PetitTrou-de-Nippes, (“Little Hole of Nippes”) Haiti. I’ve initiated this fundraising campaign to help the children of this beautiful community. For many children in Haiti, classrooms are often held in makeshift structures that are in poor conditions. For others, the nearest school can be several miles away, and still, there are those who simply cannot afford the cost of education. As a result, they’ve missed out on the chance to access a revolutionary education. This observation grew a resonant call to action, and in 2017, Deep Mercy Academy was born.
We’re working hard to ensure no child, in Trou-de-Nippes, misses out on the chance for learning. Since its inception, Deep Mercy has worked with the local community to open Deep Mercy Academy. We now serve over 80 students in our primary school from kindergarten to 4th grade. Our students engage in classes of language, music, and computer skill development. Notably, our school eliminates the financial burden to the families of the community by being the first school to provide tuition free education, school uniforms, daily lunch and self-care services in the region. Our self-care services include a barber shop for the boys to get hair cuts and salon for the girls to get their hair braided and nails done also free of charge.
In the last three years we have been using a church for our classes, which we have now outgrown. As demand for student enrollment is exponentially increasing, we are in need of finances to build a more permanent schoolhouse structure. The free services provided to our students and their families are based on one contingency, that they participate in our reforestation program. This Reforestation program is a means for the Community to actively participate in rebuilding their natural environment which will facilitate cleaner air and populate surrounding natural fauna and flora of Trou-de-Nippes.
We are happy to currently be in collaboration with Food for the Poor, who will be contributing the construction of two wells, one on each of our East and West campuses respectively. This will provide water for the area, and help our initiative for hygiene education by implementing modern sanitation techniques.
This is where your generosity comes in, we are in desperate need of your help. We would like to raise at least $100,000.00 to continue expanding Deep Mercy Academy and its surrounding community.
