Update: December 14, 2020
The Creek Fire that started less than a mile from Camp Sierra on September 4, 2020 is currently 96% contained at 379,895 acres.
Although the Sierra National Forest is still closed, we now know the extent of the fire damage to Camp Sierra. We are profoundly grateful that most of the conference grounds were spared. Hillside Chapel deck was completely destroyed. There is also peripheral damage to some buildings and grounds. These sites were not included in the insurance policy coverage.
Four siteholder cabins were completely destroyed.
The summer of 2020 was difficult for Camp Sierra. Due to COVID, Camp Sierra was not approved to book groups, so very little income was received. Normally, weeks are booked with various groups from churches, youth groups, music groups and other organizations.
The summer of 2021 future is still uncertain. If COVID is not sufficiently controlled with public health measures and vaccine distribution, it is unknown if Camp Sierra will be approved to open.
Camp Sierra is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a place where groups large and small can come together in a beautiful mountain setting for fellowship, recreation, meetings, celebration, worship and contemplation.
Camp Sierra is asking for donations to cover rebuilding Hillside Chapel and to offset the loss of income due to COVID. Any amount you are able to give will be greatly appreciated.
Donations are tax deductible.
