For me, this journey to the finish line is personal. My sweet and sassy 5 year old daughter lives with apraxia of speech (she is non-verbal) and ataxic cerebral palsy. It is extraordinarily frustrating to know that she has limited resources for her social and emotional development, alongside typically developing peers, outside of the regular school day. She just wants to play alongside her friends and be given the opportinity to do what they can do!
My personal battle and passion for running with purpose is what led me straight to Camp Shriver. Camp Shriver’s mission is "to bring children with and without disabilities together to provide opportunities for social and motor development, while promoting positive peer relationships among campers". I am blown away by what this camp has been able to accomplish over the past 14 years. Camp Shriver at UMass Boston has welcomed over 1,400 children, 50% with and 50% without intellectual and developmental disabilities (ages 8-12) from low income families to a free inclusive summer camp.
I don't have to imagine what a camp like this means to families like mine.
Please help me support Camp Shriver achieve its mission by making a donation. All the funds I raise will directly support over 120 children to attend summer camp or "Saturday Camp" during the school year.
I appreciate your support. Every dollar counts!!
