Camp Second Chance is a clean and sober tiny house village that offers emergency shelter and community to 50 individuals. CSC was formed in April of 2016, and has since been adopted into LIHI’s tiny house village program that receives city-funding for operations.
Over the past few months, volunteers have worked alongside residents to replace all tents on-site with 50 tiny homes. The tiny homes have lockable doors, insulation, electricity, heat, and ventilation overall offering improved safety and security.
As we continue to upgrade the village, our next project is the construction of a new kitchen space. The current kitchen has endured well over three years of use, and will likely not survive another winter.
The rehab will include tearing down the existing kitchen made up primarily of tarps, and replacing the existing structure with new, durable structures that are elevated on a 52’ x 15’ platform with a 12’ long access ramp. Funding will contribute to materials for the build along with appliances and other furnishings. This volunteer driven project will provide a clean and safe space for residents to prepare food together, as well as improved community spaces.
We invite you to join us in this effort by donating and/or spreading the word! We hope to complete this project before the end of October in preparation for the shifting weather. Thank you for your contribution!
