This summer, for the first time in our 12-year history, Camp Power won't be taking place in Pennsylvania. Due to COVID, we've been forced to go virtual. Although very different from the beautiful, life-changing experience of actual camp, we have made a commitment to our 250-plus campers who live in NYC's most underfunded, often-overlooked communities that for 51 weeks a year, they can look forward to the one week of Camp Power being the best week of their year, no matter what. We live #51for1. We're sticking to that promise, but we need your help to make that happen.
Here's why we're fundraising at this time:
1) Like many nonprofits, our partner organization is fighting to stay afloat, losing grants and other funding channels to support Camp Power families.
2) Many of our CP Families are struggling to pay rent, put food on the table and live their pre-pandemic lives, so we are tweaking our approach and incentivizing kids and their families to join our virtual programming, where they'll be receiving direct financial rewards and care packages from Camp Power.
3) We'll be offering all the CP programming that makes for an unforgettable week like Talent Show, Morning Rallies, Evening Huddles and more – but also want to invest in accessible, top-notch virtual programming and equipment to engage the kids on a more innovative, professional level.
COVID has hit our CP families particularly hard, leaving many out of work, unable to pay rent, and lacking the consistent, vital role models found in schools, after-school programming and summer camps. Camp Power is always a life-changing piece of a camper's year and growth, but this year feels more needed than any year prior. Against all odds, help us make 2020 the most powerful summer ever.
Please help support our Camp Power community so we can keep the magic of Camp Power alive and enable these kids... to just be kids!
