I would like to introduce you to Pat Baker. Pat is the Director of Camp Morning Star, an organizational camp on Forest Service land in the Barton Flats Recreation Area south of Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Recently, I received a heartfelt phone call from Pat Baker expressing her sadness that she may lose the camp due to increased fire insurance premiums due to California wildfires and the loss of several months revenue because the camp was mandated to be closed due to the CORONAVIRUS Pandemic. As a result, her cash flow has slowed dramatically. Your support during Pat's time of need will help this benevolent camp to keep on giving!
The camp serves some 32 groups each year with some groups attending twice a year. Some of these groups that benefit from using this camp are multi-racial groups from single' parent homes with financial challenges. One such group Pat has been serving for over 30 years is the California Young Marines with their 300+ members. Other groups include Adventists, Baptists, Boy Scouts, Campus Crusade for Christ, Catholic, Islamic High School, Latter-daySaints, Lutheran, Sikh, Pentecosal, and educational groups in public service such as the Annual Fire/EMS Bootcamp and Jr. Fire/EMS Bootcamp.
Camp Morning Star has been operating since 1988, appproximaely 32 years. The cost to operate the camp has grown to approximately $300,000 per year. Pat is a giving Christian, and has a tender heart for the groups that use Camp Morning Star. Many groups pay only a fraction of what it would normally cost to go to camp. She especially wants kids to have the opportunity and experience that wouldn't otherwise be available. Many kids that come to Morning Star have never been to camp or been to the mountains.
Pat, above and beyond: Paid $900 out of pocket for a mixup on our T-shirt order so the kids could get their camp T-shirts. She also ceated a meditation/walking path in honor of the non-profit's president's late husband and held a dedication ceremony in his honor. Finally, she donated the camp to our Fire/EMS Bootcamp every year for the last 12 years. These are just three of the MANY gracious things she's done for the community over the years.
Camp Morning Star is a public benefit camp operating under Benevolent Enterprises. Inc. a 501(c)(3) charity. All donations to Camp Morning Star are tax-deductible. Funds for this campaign will remain local to directly impact Camp Morning Star.
