Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Camp Kesem! I am so excited to represent this wonderful organization as I run the Half Marathon at the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon. Camp Kesem is a student-run organization that supports children impacted by a parent’s cancer. There are about 5 million children in the United States who have been affected by a parent’s cancer, and I had the honor to be a camp counselor for yellow unit (ages 9-11) this past summer. During this one week, I learned so much about the maturity, strength, and love that these kiddos have. They understood so much more than what was expected of their ages. I was amazed by the way they encouraged and supported each other through hugs, smiles, and endless shared laughs.
Each day of camp, there is a time slot called free selects where the campers can choose what activity they want to do like arts and crafts, gaga ball, petting zoo, or friendship bracelet making. During their free selects, our yellow unit girls chose to open up their own salon equipped with a full staff working on nails, hair, and massages. Campers and counselors alike from all units came to visit during their own free selects time period. It was amazing to see these girls run their own business, even improving the salon with a waiting area and giving customers friendship bracelet gifts by the end of the week.
We have a motto at camp - “Weird, but not wrong.” During this one week of camp, all of these campers are able to truly be who they are without fear of judgement - only words of support and encouragement. This safe community and the yellow unit salon would not be possible without the support provided by you. I want to thank everyone who has donated and supported me in the past to make camp happen. None of this would be possible without you. THANK YOU!!
Help me continue to make Kesem magic happen and send more campers to camp by donating to my fundraising page!
