2020 is the first time in over 50 years that Camp Christian has not been open for the Regional Youth in Georgia. No bonfires and s’mores, no paddle boats and pool time, no “Sanctuary” and vespers, no joyful voices lifting praise to God.
Our youth did not let this obstacle stop them though, attending virtual camp instead because they know the connections they have made at Camp will last a lifetime.
Camp Christian is a sacred place that has been a spiritual tipping point for so many. It’s where we discovered God in the beauty of nature, where small groups opened our eyes to inequity in our world and the healing power positive affirmation, where we learned that we are all called by God to seek justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly.
We don’t know yet what 2021 will hold for us, but it is our prayer that the camp will be open and ready for the summer. We need your help to make that happen! With camp closed, the registrations and offerings that usually keep camp operating were not collected.
It is our goal to raise $10,000 before the end of the year to help cover expenses so that we can be ready for the 2021 camping season. Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated.
When the dam broke at Camp, we came together and we prayed, and then we got to work. The outpouring of love was amazing! So let us continue to pray for the ministry of Camp Christian, and let’s get to work to make sure it’s open for the youth of Georgia in 2021. Blessings and peace!
