Dear Family and Friends,
As many of you are aware, in 2012 we started Camp Alex from the funds donated to the Alex Richardson Memorial Fund. Lacrosse was a game Alex loved, so this has been one of the ways for us to honor and remember him. When we started Camp Alex we had two goals – first, to introduce and teach the game of lacrosse to young boys and girls, and secondly, make the game available to boys and girls who might not otherwise have financial means to participate in this expensive sport.
With the direction and help of Tim and Carey Romer, we have put on many day camps to teach the game of lacrosse to young boys and girls. The camps are run by coaches, active and retired professional lacrosse players, and local high school players. The Fund has been used to purchase the equipment, pay for the coaching, and secure field time and permits - at no cost to the young participants.
We are now excited to announce the next step forward with Camp Alex. We have teamed up with Harlem Lacrosse Los Angeles (http://www.harlemlacrosse.org/los-angeles/ ) to bring the game of lacrosse to South Los Angeles, Compton and Inglewood. Harlem Lacrosse is a school-based program which, using lacrosse as a catalyst, teaches boys and girls that with education, respect and commitment, there are no limits to what they can achieve.
We attended the camp this past June and, at an all camp meeting, were introduced to the camp participants by Mike Levin. During the introduction, Mike told the boys and girls our story of losing Alex and how the Alex Richardson Memorial Fund came to fruition. The compassion and genuine gratitude these children showed us, in light of all their adversities, was truly amazing. We are incredibly inspired by the opportunities that Harlem Lacrosse is providing these wonderful children and look forward to participating in Camp Alex every year going forward.
We would love to see this program and Camp Alex continue for many years. If you feel like this is a worthwhile cause and would like to help, you are able to donate by clicking on the link below. Every dollar amount is much appreciated.
Much love,
Sean & Debbie
