Marathon #4. Boston #2. This time i am very fortunate to be able to run for another suicide prevention organization. This one is right here at home and is a United Way program called Call2Talk. This organization is awesome because it connects with suicidal pre-teens and young teens on a level that they can relate to...text. This cause is very personal to me this year as those closest to me can understand. A little about the charity...
Call2Talk is a mental health, emotional support, and suicide prevention program in Framingham.
They offer suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention services to anyone in need.
A little bit about me and why i run...
Suicide has unfortunately had a profound impact on our lives. will never forget where i was or how I felt when I got the call. On July 28, 2016 my family's life was shattered when Eric Burgess, the Father of my four children died by suicide. The grief that me and my four children have lived through and will continue to experience for the rest of our lives is indescribable. My kids are so resilient and strong but it is such a tragedy for them to grow up without a Father. Every single day I think of how Eric must have felt when he was alone in those dark final hours three years ago and how desparate he must have felt for suicide to be the only option for him.
In April 2019, I ran my first Boston Marathon. I raised money to support Jeff's Place, a bereavement center for families who have experienced a significant loss. Ben, Abby, Sam, Maddie and I have been going to Jeff's Place since 2016 and the support we have received there has been tremndous.
In November 2019 I completed the NYC 2019 Marathon in support of the Samaritans of New York, This seemed like an amazing opportunity to prevent other families from having to go through what we went through. The best gift one could possibly give is to prevent such a tragic loss of a loved one. For me this comes full circle. For Boston I ran for the survivors. For NYC I run to prevent the loss that leads to having "survivors" in the first place.
In April 2020 again I run for suicide prevention, this time for an organizastion that targets the youth. Too many young lives are lost to suicide.
Please give if you can.
Peace and love,
