Hello Family and Friends,
For those who have not yet heard, I have been randomly selected by the City of Framingham to run the upcoming 2020 Boston Marathon in April. I and 21 other runners have already embarked on this incredible journey as we are just over 1 month into our training as part of Team Framingham.
Five charities were also randomly selected for runners to choose from. While training for and running the Boston Marathon will be a fulfilling and rewarding expedition, I am more thrilled about the opportunity to raise money for a cause that has directly affected my life. The charity I chose to raise money for is United Way’s Call2Talk. Call2Talk is a mental health, emotional support, and suicide prevention program in Framingham. I chose this charity after losing a beloved classmate, teammate, and close friend to suicide in 2017. Chris Loughran was somebody who could brighten up your entire day with his vibrant smile or extreme sense of humor. Chris has given me the strength and inspiration to train and complete this daunting task in his memory while raising money for suicide prevention and the battle he faced, and millions of others continue to face worldwide each day. Your donations will specifically support outreach and education in Framingham schools about risk factors, warning signs, and how to help someone in crisis. It will also help promote texting services to teens and young adults. Thank you for taking the time to read this and in closing I ask you to be caring and understanding towards all people you encounter as you never know what battles they are going through in life. Please consider making a donation towards this special cause.
Call2Talk is a mental health, emotional support, and suicide prevention program based right here in Framingham. It has been open for six years. Call2Talk provides a 24/7 confidential call line and we encourage people to call us before they get to a point of crisis or potential self-harm. All our call takers are volunteers who complete extensive training prior to answering the phones. Call2Talk also provides an outgoing peer call program for older adults at risk of self-harm in partnership with Advocates, Inc. and Baypath Elder Services. The Call2Talk team actively engages with the community to provide suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention services to anyone in need. We provide community-based trainings to local organizations and groups.
