HEAF is truly a family.
I was first connected with HEAF as a pro-bono consultant in the fall of 2016 and now, a year and half later, serve on the Junior Board of this amazing organization. I have had the opportunity to volunteer on career panels, attend open houses and thought leader events, and partner with the incredible staff at HEAF in a number of ways. Every chance I have had to interact with HEAF-- programs, staff, and especially students-- has continued to drive home the important work that is being accomplished by this organization and inspired me to help move that work forward in any way I can.
The 11X11 campaign is a reference to the 11 year (!) commitment HEAF makes to their students. Beginning in Middle School and through College, HEAF is focused on supporting their student's development and success. 11 years is a family-level commitment.
HEAF creates pathways to college and the professional world for nearly 600 low-income New York City minority youth each year, by providing resources that help them achieve higher education, fulfilling careers, and greater lifetime earnings. HEAF’s Academic Continuum is a multi-year, sequential program that includes academic advancement, leadership, and character development. Students attend after-school, Saturday, and summer classes in math, language arts, humanities, science, and the fine arts. Students also take youth development classes and participate in retreats and service projects where they learn communication, negotiation, and leadership skills through a variety of enjoyable team-building activities. Fridays are reserved for recreational activities, including HEAF’s gender-specific groups, the Youth Leadership Council and optional recreational classes.
The 11 x 11 giving campaign lasts for 11 days and is about the power of the masses. Please consider giving $11 (or more) to this incredible organization doing great things for the kids of NYC.
