Since 2001, inspired by Bunny Williams and Naomi Blumenthal, and guided by horticulturist Deborah Munson, Trade Secrets has supported the valuable work of Women’s Support Services (WSS) in Sharon, CT, whose mission is to create social change to end interpersonal, relationship violence by challenging attitudes and beliefs about power, control, and gender norms and by advocating for victims and survivors.
The annual event, which would have celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, combines a rare plant and antiques sale with special tours of nearby gardens, including Bunny's own.
Unfortunately this years Trade Secrets event had to be cancelled due to the terrible virus affecting the entire country. To celebrate the 20th year of the event, founder Bunny Williams will be joined by co-founders, former gardeners who help her develop the garden, and current Head Gardner Robert Reimer for a live video tour of her garden in Connecticut. Please join us for the virtual tour on Instagram Live on Sunday, May 17th at 4pm ET.
You can view the live video by visiting Bunny's Instagram page at www.instagram.com/bunnys_eye.
Women's Support Services
The cancellation of Trade Secrets this year also means the loss of Women’s Support Services' primary fundraiser. We encourage individuals who are able to consider donating $50, the price of a ticket to the event, to support WSS.
Donations go directly to Women's Support Services to help adults and children who are victimized by domestic violence.
Women's Support Services continues to support anyone who needs their help throughout this crisis - and their services are needed now more than ever, as social distancing increases relationship violence with people spending more time in their homes together. WSS also continues their work with community partners and schools - providing online support and training and maintaining educational activities and curricula for children and teens.
