Our Organization provides all the Honors Ceremonies for Veterans that will be interned at Fargo National Cemetery. It's located in a rural area with no facilities and surrounded by miles of farm land. It is federal property over seen by the Veterans Administration. This cemetery is part of the VA's Rural Initiative, which offers funds to areas in the United States that do not normally qualify for a National Cemetery the ability to build one.
The VA has informed Fargo Memorial Honor Guard that there are no plans to build any restroom facilities or any other buildings until the cemetery is at least 100 acres. The cemetery was opened in October of 2019 and is currently 5 acres. Right now all the volunteers wait in their vehicles until we have a ceremony to perform. When we have multiple burials in one day the only choice available is to stand around or sit in our vehicles, and during the winter it gets a little expensive.
So, our original goal was to raise enough money to buy a piece of land close to the cemetery and build ourselves a nice facility that will fulfill all our needs. An office to run day to day operations, a lounge and eating area, storage room for supplies, uniforms, and other equipment we use for our ceremony. The most important will be a restroom so we don't kill all the grass at the cemetery...just kidding... sort of…
Now after performing 100s of funerals we've seen the families that arrive for a funeral, sometimes from across the country, have no ability to gather together to grieve, comfort, or celebrate the life of the Veteran being interned. So, we want to have a facility for our needs plus creating a Family Use Facility; for family and friends to take fellowship with each other.
We know this will be a huge project and there are many facets we need to consider to make this a reality. Right now we are trying to contact the 3 landowners that are directly next too, across from and adjacent to the Fargo National Cemetery. Those pieces of land are optimal for their direct access. We have tried contacting them ourselves, but have found that it's an arduous task. So we have decided to work in phases to reach our ultimate goal
Fargo Memorial Honor Guard is excited to announce the launch of a Go Fund Me: Funding Feasibility Campaign.
This Funding Campaign will allow Fargo Memorial Honor Guard to raise funds in order to:
