About two weeks ago, I found out my grandfather got sick. He had been in a rehab facility due to his back surgery. About one week ago, he was getting worse and was sent to the ICU. He was having trouble breathing and was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. He had to be intubated and was placed on a ventilator. Of course, he got tested for the coronavirus. Many residents in the rehab facility tested positive. After waiting about a week for the results to come back, we were told he tested positive and no one was allowed to visit him. My grandfather was a very strong healthy man. He never had any health issues other than for his joint and back problems. We all thought he was going to stay strong and make it through. Even the doctor told us that he is fighting the virus and his organs are not failing like most of his other patients that also had the virus. We asked about him day and night. The doctor told us we just have to wait and see what happens.
Today, April 1st, we got a call from the doctor telling us that he is not going to make it. He put us on the phone to say our goodbyes virtually since no one was allowed to see him. Less than 30 minutes after that, my grandfather passed away. He was an amazing man who always had a beautiful smile on his face. May God (SWT) grant him the highest levels of Jannah inshAllah.
I am starting a Gofundme on behalf of my grandfather, Jamil Amro. I want to build a well under his name for those in need in Guinea (UNICEF’s water for Guinea program). $5,000 fully funds a manually drilled well that provides sustainable safe water for an entire village for generations.
The Messenger of Allah (saw) was asked, “Which charity is best?” He replied, “[Providing] water”’. [Abu Dawud]
I am making this campaign in efforts to reach my goal by the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan. Any donation will help make an impact. I ask you to all please share this link and help with whatever you can. If you can’t donate, please make dua for my grandfather. Thank you.
