I am in awe of our people’s ability to not only survive but to thrive. I’m in awe of our resilience. From colonization to slavery to forced immigration. Low income people of color’s body’s have been forced to move to the forces that control our lives, and with increasingly limited resources we have fought back, survived, laughed and built beautiful communities through the damage and destruction.
As many of you know, I stepped into a leadership position this year at the Chinese Progressive Association as the Operations Director. I have a deep love for CPA because CPA is committed to figuring out how we can demand what we deserve and build power for low income populations of color. We organize the Chinese community, with our allies throughout the city to demand policies and services that work for us not against us. We are committed to building electoral power, and changing the lives of the working class in a city that is in the midst of deep population and cultural change. I also know, as someone who didn’t grow up in CA, the wins we win in CA reverberate across the nation (albeit slowly). The progressive wins we have here impact the whole nation.
This is the work we do as an organization, but as an operations director, I have the joy of figuring out how we can support this work. CPA has almost tripled in size since I came on board, and in this time I’ve really gotten to think about what would it mean to operate at a bigger scale? How do we support our success and our wins, by having the logistical puzzles solved so that bureaucracy or bad org structure isn’t the thing that slows us down? I’m so honored to be able to contribute to this work in a meaningful way.
Will you join me in seeing how big we can make an impact by donating today to support CPA and our work?
