On Saturday, September 22, we will be participating in a competition called Girls Gone RX. More importantly, by participating in this competition we will be raising money for an awesome organization, Bright Pink.
Bright Pink is on a mission to save women’s lives from breast and ovarian cancer by empowering them to live proactively at a young age. Their approach is through education and healthy behavior changes. Prevention at its finest! How amazing is that?! What's even more amazing is that YOU can help! We've set a lofty fundraising goal...call us dreamers.
This is important to us because according to recent statistics, about 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 63,960 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. Also, ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. A woman's risk of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 78. Her lifetime chance of dying from ovarian cancer is about 1 in 108.
