While there are many crises unfolding daily around the world, as Buddhists we are particularly concerned about the genocide occurring in Myanmar under the banner of Buddhism.
Our group, Buddhists Responding of Corvallis, came into being in 2016 in response to situations like this, both local and international. Our goal is to bring a dharma perspective to social engagement and to support actions that align with our values and our commitment to the Buddhist path of wisdom and compassion.
In an ongoing effort to address the crisis in Myanmar, we are raising funds for Rohingya refugee relief. Over the next four months we will reach out to American and Canadian Buddhist communities with the hope of raising $5000 to help ameliorate the suffering of the Rohingya.
We invite you to join with us in making a difference in the lives of these people who need our help. Even a small donaion of $3 or$5 is a step toward our goal!
As Americans we are geographicaly and culturally distanced from the horrors that have been visited upon the Rohingya, but as Buddhists, we know that there is no distance in suffering.
Finally, while it may seem, at times, that we have little likelihood of influencing the waves of turmoil and suffering in our world, remember:
"Do not take lightly small good deeds,
Believing they can hardly help,
For drops of water one by one
In time can fill a giant pot."
