It's time to kick off the Back-to-School Campaign for 2018. My goal is to raise $2,700. That amount will fund one classroom for an entire year. This includes teacher’s salary, 2 meals, per day, per child, all supplies needed plus keeping the children healthy.
This year I would like to share the personal story of 1 student out of the 1,300 in the Kilgoris schools. Meet Leteipa, my Kenyan grandson. I first met Leteipa in 2012 during my first visit to Kilgoris, Kenya, he was 9 and I was, let's just say I was a tad older. There was an immediate bond between us and through various means, letters, personal visits, etc., we have built a loving relationship between us. Leteipa was born in a very rural community outside the small village of Kilgoris, Kenya. Although his family was rich in culture, no one in his family had an education and had very little hope that Leteipa would have an opportunity to break that cycle. Why, you may ask, simply put, there were no schools within a day’s walk of his family home. One of the first schools that TKP built was an hour’s walk, in each direction, of Leteipa. His family made the decision to enroll him. Leteipa was eager to learn and that he did! In 2017 he graduated the 8th grade at Intimigom. He is currently attending (he must room and board there) a government secondary school in a neighboring town. TKP provided the means, Leteipa did the hard work, and with a little help from his adopted grandma, he will be the first in his family to be educated.
Leteipa is only one success story from the TKP schools that you have so generously supported! Please help ensure that the amazing work TKP is doing will continue by clicking on this link:https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/bts-challenge2018/gailshiflett to donate. A new option is available this year, text kilgoris to 41411, select my name from the drop down menu to donate. Checks and cash are always accepted, if you prefer!
Please keep Leteipa and TKP in your prayers.
Thank you so much!
